2022 Astro-Infused Book Reviews

Updated: Apr 12, 2023

I'm getting to this a bit late, but it finally made it to my to-do list! So, I decided to write it!! I really love to read (and listen to Audible). I read a variety of books and am continuing my now three-year trend of categorizing my books based on their predominant astrological energies. If you're in need of your next great book or audiobook, check out these reviews. Consider picking a book that aligns with your sun sign, moon sign, or rising sign (or other prominent energies in your birth chart).

Your Astro-Reading Style

Since the fifth house in astrology reflects your approach to recreation, the sign on the fifth house cusp and planets in that house may influence your taste in books. The ninth house relates to learning-style and -interests, so the sign and planets there also may play a role in what you choose to read or what you enjoy.

Your Mercury placement describes your own communication style, so you may resonate with books with themes that reflect the sign of your Mercury or prominent connections (aspects) it makes.

My Mercury is in Libra conjunct Pluto and sextile to Neptune. I love Scorpio-themed books (Scorpio is ruled by Pluto. Plus, I'm also a Scorpio sun.) and Pisces books (Pisces is ruled by Neptune). Aquarius is on my ninth house cusp (and its ruler Uranus is conjunct my sun), so I read a lot of Aquarian-vibe books, as well. Libra books are also common with me, as my fifth house cusp and Mercury are in Libra.

If you like astrology and are intrigued by personality >> habit analysis, try doing similar book-inspired research using your own chart!!

The Plan

Will list the books with a ranking based on how much I enjoyed it, a short review or comment, and the prominent astrological energies.

Books I Read in 2022

  1. The Ten Thousand Doors of January - Alix Harrow - 7 - Interesting fantasy book with doors opening into different worlds. Loved the concept but wished it could have gone even wilder! Pisces

  2. Apples Never Fall - Liane Moriarty - 8 - Great book with sports and relationship themes, as well as a mystery. Many of Liane Moriarty's books have Libra vibes, relationship themes. Blend of Libra, Aries, Scorpio.

  3. Siddhartha - Hermann Hesse - 10 - This is a re-read. Read this book in 2003 and wanted to revisit it. It's a spiritual classic. Highly recommend. Sagittarius and Pisces.

  4. The Club - Ellery Lloyd - 7 - Murder mystery in a remote location. Scorpio.

  5. Fates and Furies - Lauren Groff - 9 - Really beautifully written depiction of a marriage between two interesting characters. Libra.

  6. The Golden Couple - Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen - 8 - Psychological mystery + thriller. Psychotherapy features prominently in the plot. Definitely Scorpio.

  7. In a Dark, Dark Wood - Ruth Ware - 7 - British mystery novel. Pretty fast-paced and entertaining. Scorpio.

  8. A Man Called Ove - Fredrik Backman - 7 - I didn't like this book as much as some do. Ove is def a grouch and difficult to like. He grows on you, which is part of the charm. Has Cancer vibes from the emotional and family-oriented/neighborhood themes. Capricorn from Ove's personality.

  9. The Dovekeepers - Alice Hoffman, Heather Lind - 10 - One of my favorite books I've probably ever read and def one of my favorites from this year. Story of women and their relationships and how they support each other in a very challenging period in history. It's historical fiction and expertly done. Cancer and Libra.

  10. Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel - 7 - Interesting post-apocalyptic book. Kept my attention better than the TV series (which I didn't finish). Aquarius.

  11. Verity - Colleen Hoover - 9 - Fascinating mystery with great twists. Super fast read. Scorpio and maybe Gemini or Libra for the writing and relationship themes. Some Pisces shadow side energy, too.

  12. Counterfeit - Kirstin Chen - 7 - Fun book about smart women breaking rules. Kind of a posh women's version of "Breaking Bad". Taurus for the posh and maybe Pisces for the deceit elements.

  13. The Clan of the Cave Bear - 8 - Really enjoyed this older book that I'd never read. Fascinating historical fiction set in prehistoric times. It was very earthy and sensual. Probably fits with Taurus and a little Virgo and Capricorn due to the healing elements (Virgo) and strong themes of societal rules and structure (Capricorn).

  14. The Nightingale - Kristin Hannah - 9 - Excellent historical fiction that I avoided for a while due to the WWII setting always challenging me. But it was worth the discomfort. The book is beautiful and touching. Feels most strongly Cancer to me due the emotional tone and family themes. Capricorn, too, due to the challenges and restrictions the characters faced.

  15. The Great Alone - Kristin Hannah - 8 - A very difficult but beautiful book about a family who moves to a homestead in a remote location in Alaska. Capricorn and Cancer.

  16. The Help - Kathryn Stockett - 9 - So glad I finally got around to reading this! I loved the movie and grew up in the South. Was very gratifying to hear this tale on Audible. Aquarius and Libra energies. And maybe some Virgo.

  17. Lessons in Chemistry - Bonnie Garmus - 8 - Pretty entertaining book about a scientist turned TV personality/chef. Capricorn vibes for all the strength, goal-direction, and order in the lead character's personality.

  18. The Last to Vanish - Megan Miranda - 7 - Loved the atmospheric setting of this book in the NC mountains. Mysterious and interesting. Scorpio.

  19. Fairy Tale - Stephen King - 7-8 - This book was not scary and was a totally different kind of Stephen King book. I really enjoyed it. It was an adventure fantasy, really. Sagittarius and Pisces.

  20. The Book of Longings - Sue Monk Kidd - 7 - Historical fiction about Jesus' possible wife. Definitely enjoyed. Cancer and Libra. Some Sagittarius (long journey) vibes, too.

  21. The Secret Life of Bees - Sue Monk Kidd - 8-9 - Loved this beautiful book about love, helping others, sensitive souls, bees, the healing power of nature and connection. Cancer, Pisces, Taurus.

  22. Steppenwolf - Hermann Hesse - 9 - Another re-read of this interesting classic. It was hard to follow both times I've read it, but worth the effort. Understood it more the second time. Def is bizarre and fantastical, which I enjoyed. Pisces for the imaginative, dreamy nature and Capricorn to fit the main character's state of mind.

That's my list! Hope this post inspires you to read some books (or listen to them) and apply the fascinating gifts of astrology. With the help of astro archetypes, you can better understand yourself based on what you love!
